Narni, Stifone & the Secret Waters of Umbria

A journey through underground wonders, silent rivers, and timeless beauty

This full-day experience invites you to discover one of Umbria’s most surprising and unspoiled regions. From medieval Narni to the crystalline waters of Stifone and the hidden Morìca springs, every step reveals forgotten stories and untouched nature.

Narni: Where Stone Holds Memory

Begin in Narni, an ancient fortress town once known as Narnia—yes, the inspiration for C.S. Lewis. Perched above the Nera River Valley, this hilltop village is a place of myths, mosaics, and medieval mystery.

Walk with your private guide through winding alleys, Roman gates, and quiet piazzas with sweeping views. The true revelation lies below: Narni Sotterranea, a secret underground world rediscovered only in the 1970s. Here, you’ll visit:

  • A Roman cistern,

  • A medieval tribunal,

  • And a chilling Inquisition cell, where desperate prisoners left carvings on the walls—still visible today.

This hidden network is one of Italy’s most emotional archaeological sites, offering a raw encounter with layered time.

Stifone & the Morìca Springs: Where Water Dreams

From Narni, descend toward the Nera Valley, where you’ll reach Stifone, a tiny riverside hamlet poised above one of Italy’s most vivid, turquoise stretches of river.

Once home to Roman shipyards, the area now feels suspended in time. You’ll follow an easy path along an old railway, shaded by cliffs and vines, to the Sorgenti della Morìca—crystal-clear mountain springs forming natural pools of rare beauty.

Here, you may:

  • Pause for a picnic by the water,

  • Dip your feet into the still flow,

  • Or simply sit in silence, listening to the music of the stream and forest.

No crowds, no noise. Just essence.
